Running Sonnet
January 6th 2007 21:31
I went running today, and ran faster than I had in quite a while. The weather, being unseasonably warm but not oppressively so, was probably at least partially responsible. It also helped that I was against the wind earlier as opposed to later, so I was able to push through it when I wasn't tired and I let it push me forward when I was. Because of that run, I'm transplanting a running sonnet from my original blog here at Orble. Here it is:
Running a long route can tire you out
But in the long run you'll have quite a bit
More energy than if you choose to sit
Most of the day and rarely move about
Acting like that can make one become stout
While we are free to act as we deem fit
We won't seem fit if we elect to quit
Exercising - of that there's little doubt
Some would only run when late for a flight
I ran for years when I was on a team
And couldn't stop when I ran out of steam
I would run to class or home late at night
But now it seems I primarily run
From all the things that I need to get done
Running a long route can tire you out
But in the long run you'll have quite a bit
More energy than if you choose to sit
Most of the day and rarely move about
While we are free to act as we deem fit
We won't seem fit if we elect to quit
Exercising - of that there's little doubt
Some would only run when late for a flight
I ran for years when I was on a team
And couldn't stop when I ran out of steam
I would run to class or home late at night
But now it seems I primarily run
From all the things that I need to get done

I don't run, but I do exercise daily - or try too - as it is so important to writing.
I could hear you panting in the pace of this sonnet ...
