Reasons To Write
October 12th 2006 01:37
A couple of weeks ago, the Romantic Writer blogger whose name I may or may not have forgotten how to spell suggested that I write a blog entry about the writing process. This isn't exactly that, but it may be as close as I'm going to come to it in a blog devoted to sonnets. That, of course, may change if inspiration strikes but I've delayed posting the sonnet that I just wrote enough already. So, here it is:
To express loss and what I hope to gain
To help figure out what I should avoid
To vent at times when I’m feeling annoyed
To be consistently using my brain
To make what was complicated seem plain
To create ideas that can’t be destroyed
For other reasons linked somehow to Freud
As well as to inform and entertain
It’s also important for me to prove
That it has not been a waste of my time
Writing so much both in prose and in rhyme
Even if it’s not art like in the Louvre
Apart from all that, I would like to earn
Enough that I would have money to burn
Are your reasons for writing primarily the same or do the differ significantly from the ones that I have listed? Let me know.

I'm impressed. Sonnets are hard to get right.
To answer your question, I write to inform, entertain, and for the potential increase to my cash flow.
