Lots of Sonnets - November 2006

Sonnet From A Hospital Bed

November 21st 2006 04:03

Gentle was the voice of the boxing pro
'Til I laid my gentle hand on his wife
And said something lewd involving a fife
My mouth's next fistful felt much worse than crow
Got smacked in the chin and then down below
Although he did not pull a gun or knife
I still had reason to fear for my life

At least I think that I stomped on his toe

My ribs and my jaw could take months to heal
Been weaned off morphine so I don't feel fine
I'm told that my tale will not help me sign
A huge lucrative nonfiction book deal

'Twould be something good to tell a grandkid
But I can't have one due to what he did

Weightlifting Sonnet

November 18th 2006 18:54

pic from www.acclaimimages.com

Been lifting weights - I think it's working out
But others might think it's fooling around
Bench-pressing less than fifty times one pound
Which is more than handfuls of Sauerkraut
And would case damage if dropped on my snout
My nose seems bigger than the muscles found

On my arm bones, which rarely make a sound
Or a face, but they would probably pout

But they're big enough to make me feel sore
After like fifty times raising the bar -
A singular entity since so far
All of the barbells remained on the floor

I may not be ready to win a fight
But I'm strong enough to push keys and write
